Urbano Continentale

I'm not a "street" photographer, but I do like the Urban Landscape, and so when I'm abroad I try to get a few Urban Landscapes to include in this project. Click to see more...

This project is a deep exploration of the rich and varied urban landscapes found across Continental Europe. While it isn't centred on street photography's traditional focus on capturing people and their interactions, it instead delves into the broader context of the urban environment, looking at the architecture, spaces, and atmosphere that define Europe's diverse cities.

Through this project, the aim is to capture the essence of urban landscapes in Europe, from a unique angle. Rather than focusing on the bustling crowds and street-level hustle and bustle, the project seeks to capture the larger-scale features of cities, such as architecture, public spaces, streetscapes, and the interplay of light and shadow in these environments. It explores how these elements contribute to the identity of each city and create the backdrop for the stories that unfold within them.

Each photograph within the project is a carefully composed frame that invites viewers to consider the city's structure, design, and how it has evolved over time. The images might feature grand boulevards lined with elegant townhouses, quiet cobblestone alleys hidden from the main thoroughfares, or sweeping views of cityscapes where historical landmarks and modern skyscrapers coexist. They could also explore the textures and details of the built environment, from the intricate facades of century-old buildings to the sleek lines of contemporary architecture.

The photographs are not merely static images but are intended to evoke a sense of place, allowing the viewer to imagine themselves within these urban environments. They also provoke thought about the relationship between people and their surroundings, even when the people themselves are notably absent. This exploration invites the audience to consider how cities grow, change, and maintain their unique identities over time.

Overall, the project is an exploration of the urban fabric of Europe, capturing the beauty, complexity, and diversity of its cities. Through these images, viewers are transported across the continent, experiencing the unique atmospheres and architectural wonders that define each city. It is a celebration of the urban landscape in all its forms, from the historic to the contemporary.
