A high contrast photograph of The Atom Panopticon, near Colne.
The Atom Panopticon is a striking sculpture in Wycoller Country Park near Colne, Lancashire, and part of the Panopticons project, a series of four large-scale sculptures celebrating East Lancashire’s cultural heritage and landscapes. Designed by Peter Meacock, Katarina Novomestska, and Architecture Central, the semi-spherical structure resembles a futuristic pod, constructed from concrete and perforated steel. Its circular openings and large oculus frame picturesque views of the surrounding countryside, including Pendle Hill, while the interior offers a contemplative space with shelter and seating, enhancing the interaction between light, shadow, and nature.
Located in the peaceful Wycoller Country Park, known for its historic village, walking trails, and ancient bridges, the Atom complements the idyllic setting and serves as a landmark for East Lancashire’s regeneration efforts. Symbolising observation, reflection, and connection, it blends art and nature, encouraging visitors to explore and appreciate the landscape. Easily accessible via scenic walking paths and a really handy car park a stones-throw away, it is a popular destination for photography, hiking, and quiet reflection.
Printed on 265gsm ultra white base and stippled lustre paper. Please note that all images are representative and slight variations in prints may occur due to your screen calibration differing from mine slightly. Don't worry though, I do my utmost to ensure the prints are as good as possible before shipping.
Please note:
Any watermarks will not be printed.
Prints are delivered with a small white border around the print. This is intentional and serves a couple of useful purposes:
- Framing Flexibility: It makes matting and framing easier without cropping the image.
- Protection: It allows for easier and safer handling without touching the printed area.
If you'd prefer your prints without borders, please let me know using the text box next to the print size selection.
