Heaton Park Tramway night shoot

Updated: May 27, 2024

Saturday 22nd October, 2022.

For the first time in over a decade, Heaton Park Tramway held their nighttime photoshoot. Organised and run by volunteers of the tramway, a number of trams were out on the lines and illuminated by spot lamps dotted around.

On the ‘lower’ half of the line, utilising the original double track installed by Manchester Corporation in 1903, Manchester themed static photography was set up, with Manchester 765, Manchester 173, Stockport 5 and the special guest for the evening, Manchester Daimler CVG6DD 4127, rotated around this section of line for different shots.

On the ‘upper’ half of the line, utilising the single track installed by the Manchester Transport Museum Society since the tramway opened a 1930s Blackpool tram, Blackpool 623, offered trips to the Lakeside depot where a short tour was available, and at the end of the evening Manchester Daimler CVG6DD 4127 bus provided transport back to the Middleton Road depot.

All in all, it was a very well organised and run event, with all of the volunteers involved working hard with their usual enthusiasm to put on a good show.

Below are two sets of images, digital colour images shot on my Nikon Z7 with the 24-70 f4 and the black and white scanned images which were shot on my Bronica SQ Ai with the 80mm f2.8 PS lens, shot on Ilford HP5+ at ISO 400. I then developed the film in 510 Pyro bought from Zone Imaging.
